Title: The difference between a man that is good and a man that is bad in name only
Characters: Sungmin, Zhou Mi
Rating: PG-13

The only church in the Bottoms is in ruins. Hankyung mentions something about Heechul being serious about burning things, but Zhou Mi doesn't pay attention. In its destruction, the place is actually quite pretty. He climbs up the wall like a spider, like a monkey, choosing height over safety.

It's not until he sees the men by what would be the altar that he realizes the danger would be in staying put on the ground. Voices spoken in hushed tones, jerky movements and the glimmer of a sword. But strangely, no sign of his brothers. The sword must've been given out on loan and there's only one guy he knows, if only by name, who'd be able to get that kind of favor.

Turns out the warnings exaggerated the reality. Sungmin may be into killing people, but he's a child. Blonde hair, baby fat still in his cheeks. Even his voice is too soft to be dangerous.

Zhou Mi is not impressed until he hears the crack of bones being pushed together at an unnatural angle.

Whoever the man on the ground really is, he should've known better than to come here with such a deadly little pixie. It's his own fault for being thoughtless. Zhou Mi spares no pity on the stupid and the weak. He rarely spares anyone a second thought these days, unless they're related to him by blood or code or somehow able to get into his head.

For Sungmin, he harbors no resentment, only a flickering curiosity sparking to a flame of interest. Who taught him to press the heel of his boot over that man's rotula? And what did he do to deserve it?

"You can come down, you know," he calls from below, running the man through in one harsh press of Henry's blade to a bruised stomach. "You're not fooling anyone."

He smirks. Henry must've taught him that too. His little brother broke more than one rule, but who can blame him? The appeal is obvious and it's not like he had anyone else to rely on. A little cowed at the thought, Zhou Mi descends from the ledge of half-burnt wood to the ground, rubble crackling under his boots.

"Didn't want to interrupt your fun." A smirk. "You're not a very nice person, according to that guy." A nod of the head points to the bleeding body by the altar, lying there like a sacrificial lamb.

"You don't come that highly recommended yourself," Sungmin shoots back, acid tongue over sweet words. Or is it the other way around?

Zhou Mi glances from his lips to the way he ever so carefully cleans the blade and thinks of sin, thinks of Henry. Little brother with a little deadly lover of his very own.

"I'm disappointed, since we're practically family..." Sungmin looks up startled, eyes wide and childish. Pretty, he thinks and smirks like the predator he is. "Oh, Henry didn't tell you? He's my brother..." A step takes him forward, well within reach of the sword but confident it won't be swung in his direction.

Sungmin is listening. Given time, Zhou Mi knows he's got him, if he wants him. If he plays his cards right.

Title: Back to back
Characters: Yesung, Shindong
Rating: PG

"Ready to go out in a blaze of glory, Officer?" he laughs over the sound of raging fire, ignoring the sound like it's no more unusual than the rain on a Sunday morning in summer. Yesung closes his eyes and imagines it, the quiet surface of a lake, leaves battered by the wind and the falling rain. Torrents of wind shaking the tree branches.

It's peaceful and natural in a way that dying in a shootout in the Bottoms is not.

"Hey, Officer, you get hit already or what?" Shindong never sounds scared or desperate. It's almost annoying. "Gets boring if I'm talking to myself. Seriously, what's with the silence?"

"I'm meditating!" he shoots back, lips curling into a snarl. How many clips have those idiots emptied so far? How many do they still have on them? If he'd been paying attention, he'd know. "The meaning of life and all that shit, you know. Very interesting."

Shindong draws silent for a moment, the sound of fire being returned echoing as his only answer for a long time.

"Yeah? I'm just... waiting to see my life flash before my eyes," he calls out, ignoring the next volley. "These boys really need to learn how to aim a gun."

Yesung smirks, hesitating to agree when a bullet ricochets surprisingly close to his foot. "No kidding... so what's the verdict? Want to teach them a lesson? Doesn't look like they'll just let us leave otherwise."

"Why would they?" Shindong yells a spare clip sliding across the floor in the warehouse to his side. The other man must have a sixth sense for these things. "We're good company and they're not ready to let us leave yet."

"Come out with your hands up and we'll leave you alone!" some thug calls to them, words tangled in gunfire.

"So polite," he snorts, drawing to a crouch. His knee protests, it's going to need surgery, probably an implant, but he's fine for now. He can still move. "I'm in. Shindong?"

"Right behind you, boss."

Which is where he should be, Yesung thinks, charging his weapon and rising to his feet, gun drawn, focus on a target he barely has time to see.

What he does see is the bullet speeding towards him through thin air - an anomaly, for sure, but nonetheless true - before the world goes black.

Brothers? Ohhh... Where are all these delicious Chinese boys coming from? Tell me and I'm so there. I hope we get to know more about Henry's background, not just the stuff he remembers.

Okay, you did not just kill Yeh, right? D: *frets* I really like the YehDong interaction. They are probably my favorites after the hot of the ShiHanChul, of course.

There's a factory. They manufacture them on demand. Wanna place an order?

YehDong is so something I got into thanks to my co-authors. Otherwise I wouldn't have touched it in a million years. How sad would that be?

Thanks for reading!

I can't stop staring at your icon. For serious.

Yay for loving the verse. There will be more for sure. Thanks for sticking with us!

It's my celebratory icon. The hips are love, I tell you (when I got it, the caption was something like "noodle hips").

I so cannot wait to see what new adventures you take us on!

It always amazed me that you could write that fic without losing anyone - I loose people with FIVE characters. 14 would kill me. Plus all the extras.... I am in awe.

I really miss Apologia. Such a great story. Love that it's being continued ♥
rawthorne on May 13th, 2008 06:37 am (UTC)
Yay, we're glad. We realize we have a lot more unfinished stories to add to the canon.
